Common (but important) admin tasks of a built environment consultancy

Consulting businesses within the built environment, whether surveyors, engineers, project managers or designers, typically sell their time (and knowledge) to generate income.

However, to support this primary objective, there are often a number of important admin tasks that also need fulfilling to keep everything working as it should.

Here's just a few...

  1. 1. Requirement to monitor IN/OUT status so people's whereabouts are known to help field client enquiries and ensure everyone is safe.

  2. 2. Regular project invoicing runs to ensure projects are billed in a timely manner to assist with positive cashflow.

  3. 3. Track project status so that client queries can be addressed in people's absence and projects are not left to stagnate.

  4. 4. Identify and review team resource capacity to allow effective management and allocation of new work.

  5. 5. Vet and monitor third-party performance to avoid health and safety risks or repeated poor performance.

  6. 6. Demonstrate team member competency when bidding for new work.

  7. 7. Completion of project timesheets and expenses to allow accurate billing.

  8. 8. Individual task management / to-do list to ensure workload doesn't fall behind.

  9. 9. Project contract administration e.g. providing instructions, payment certs etc.

  10. 10. Project information filing to ensure good housekeeping of digital records.

Any of these sound familiar?...
